Cioccaro di Penango – Day 1

The route for today had us doing another 100+ km (about 60 miles) again.  While we spent less time among the lush vinyards, we encountered more tiny towns with the lovely churches and narrow streets that I like so much.  We also had georgeous weather with blue sky and sun abounding.  I took a lot of video on this day and have decided to offer and send it to everyone on the trip for 10 Euro per DVD.  This should cover the cost of the media and shipping, etc.

Lunch was at another “special spot” where we were able to eat outside overlooking the valley of farms and small cities below.  The food there was excellent, offering a variety of selections never before encountered by many of us (such as “donkey stew”).  While I didn’t try the donkey (some things are just not worth trying in my opinion), this lunch was outstanding, in both atmosphere, food and view.

After cranking out quite a few miles after a relatively big lunch, we could not have been happier to finally reach our hotel located in the country complete with a beautiful outdoor pool, whereby about a third of the group took a quick swim and promptly fell asleep poolside before dinner.

Dinner was once again at an “out of the way” restaurant – located well into the country – whereby one would never have found it without some “local guidance”.  This night turned into more of a “disco/dancing/kareoke” night than a night of “eating”.  While the food was good as usual, it was the crazy singing and dancing that kept us laughing for most of the night.  I took a lot of film that night also.
