Rainy Day - 3 |

Acqui Terme – Day 2 This day was the first day it rained all day in the 4 times I have been to Italy. It was coming down so hard we all decided not to ride, and to just do an “Italian lesson” and then go to our already scheduled tour of a working wine producer (farm) and his wine cellar – for a tour and for lunch. The tour of how the grape gets transformed into wine was interesting, but the lunch is what will be remembered most of all. We spent over 2 hours eating about 8 differenent courses or types of food. Most were “appetizers”, but all were fantastic. We also sampled 3 or 4 different wines as well. This is a family business, passed from generation to generation (Erede di Chicappone Armando), located in Monferrato. The son, dad, mom all were helping with lunch, and at the end we got to meet the “nonna”, who is 97 years old. Using two canes, but getting around and very alert and talkative. We took a nap (after all the hard work eating and touring) in the afternoon, went shopping before dinner and had dinner at a local, small pizza shop. It was very rewarding to shop all day and be understood by all the shop keepers. It was 5 times better than my experience last year, because I could understand them, and they could understand me. So… even though we didn’t ride today, it was a great day! |
