Deanna and Christina were my "prize", or shall we say "negotiated bonuses" for finally getting the business to higher ground. After Nina turned about 8 years old, I started having "baby withdrawal".
I always wanted to have a big family, and had been after Lorraine to agree to
two more children ever since Nina started grade school. I got so "baby desperate",
I started working in the church nursery every other Sunday for 2 years before
Deanna was born.
Lorraine finally agreed to the family swell on one condition – that she wouldn’t have to work. Oh yes, we also agreed ahead of time that if we had ONE more child, we MUST really have TWO more, since the age difference between #4 and Nina would be so great, they would eventually feel like "an only child". So the deal was struck – two more or no more – and only if Lorraine didn’t have to work. That meant I had to have the business in good enough shape that we could make it without both incomes. God was "on the move" in my business during that time, and he gave me the desire of my heart. Ten years after we had Nina, Deanna was born. |
