Day 3.  I forgot to tell you that we went 80 km on Monday (50 miles).  We did the same yesterday, but yesterday was a very different day.  I was very happy that we did not have to do the mountains again yesterday.  It was a perfect ride for recovery.  In this part of Italy, there are many bike paths.  These paths are flat (for the most part).  They were at the base of the mountains, and were very beautiful.

We rode to the place where the Giro d’Italia was supposed to start for that day.  Instead of a city, it was in the country, inside an orchard.  We were able to see all the stars get ready for the race.  There is an incredible amount of people required to sustain or support this race.  I had no idea how big it is.  These professional cyclists are like “rock stars” in the United States.

After they left, we had lunch.  While we were eating lunch, it was raining.  The rest of the day was in the rain.  But, it was perfect for me, since I trained in the rain for an entire week before I left.  The guide told me to go ahead since he had to stay with the last cyclist.  I rode fast and hard so that I could stay warm.  Now, I was happy that I rode in the rain last week.

We arrived in Bolzano; a city that is both German and Italian.  The signs, the people and the culture is a mixture.  The hotel was fantastic, with high speed internet in each room – free!  This is why I was able to send two days of emails.  We ate dinner at a german restaurant that had many interesting dishes.  It was another good day.
